The majority of M2M applications for remote management and monitoring will require the user to be able to communicate with their 4G router and the professional way to do this is by using a Fixed IP SIM Card which will provide your 4G router with a 3G / 4G mobile broadband connection with a Fixed IP address.
Public Fixed IP SIM Card
This version of a fixed IP SIM card provides your router with a public IP address which means that your router can be communicated with from anywhere on the Internet, by anybody on the internet – whilst providing the easiest to use and most cost effective solution for remote access you must ensure that your 4G router firewall and security is configured to prevent unauthorised access to your router and connected devices. The Amit M2M routers include stealth mode, firewall and advanced security features to help secure your router when using a Fixed IP SIM Card with a Public IP address.
Private Fixed IP SIM Card
This version of a fixed IP SIM card provides your router with a 3G/4G connection with a private IP address which means that it is not accessible directly from the Internet. In order to connect to your router and connected devices you first need to create a VPN from your PC to the Fixed IP SIM providers network and you can then access your devices. This method is more secure but it does mean that extra steps are required to connect to your devices and there are additional upfront, one-off charges for the VPN.
Fixed IP SIM Card Management Portal
Our fixed IP SIM cards come with a free management portal that you can use to monitor the usage on your Fixed IP SIM cards and set alerts so you know when you are reaching your inclusive data allowance. Our fixed IP SIM cards do not stop working when your inclusive allowance is reached, so it is important to set up the alerts to prevent excessive over use of your SIM card and bill shock.
Limiting Fixed IP SIM Data Usage
As mentioned above, our Fixed IP SIM cards do not stop working when your inclusive allowance is reached. You will be charged for any overage of data. If you need the ability to prevent overage then most of the Amit routers, including the IDG761 and have mobile network usage monitoring which you can configure to monitor the 3G/4G data usage and terminate the connection once the limit is reached. It can also be configured to provide SMS notification of percentage of limit amount reached. However, if you do use this feature you will be unable to access your router and connected devices because the router will disconnect from the mobile network until the restart date so if you use the Amit router and fixed IP SIM card for mission critical applications then you may want to carefully consider your use of this feature.
The Teltonika RUT950 can also be configured to limit data usage.
